This organization, founded in New Haven, Connecticut in 1971 is dedicated to collecting and preserving historical biographies and events depicting the meaningful role African-Americans have had in building our state and our country.

Memorabilia commemorates the achievements of African-American educational, civic and cultural leaders, athletes, military personnel and recognizes the churches and other organizations which help guide these men and women in their pursuits.  In building this valuable resource library, the Society collects biographies, directories, newspapers, handbills, programs, letters, diaries, rosters, photographs, relics and objects relating to past events and activities.  Donations of these materials are encouraged.

Support for maintaining the Society has come from membership, area businesses and civic organizations.   Continuous financing is necessary in order to maintain the Society, its facilities and individual contributions.  Financial contributions are tax deductible, and always welcomed.

The Connecticut African-American Historical Society, Inc. believes the future for its race can be fortified by knowing and understanding its rich heritage.  We invite you to make use of the facilities and share this proud perspective of the African-American progress in our society.
